IGAD and Kenya Medical Training Centre (KMTC) initiated partnership in health and nutrition capacity building in order to evoke synergies that would lead to improvement in the way nutrition teaching for diploma cadres is conducted and to show case the best practices in nutrition capacity building in the IGAD region

ICEN
The initiative aims to promote nutrition as a development process, just as it is a development outcome.
High-Level Advocacy
- Accelerate high-level lobbying for political support for multisectoral nutrition approaches
- Advocate for increase of investments in nu-trition
- Place nutrition actions at the core of critical decision making in health and social and development planning both at member states’ and at regional level
Capacity Development
- Show-case best practices for adoption and scale-up of novel high impact multisectoral nutrition approaches
- Support creation of nutrition centers of excellence for training, programing and research
- Enhance the technical and infrastructural capacity of training institutions to meet regional training needs
Research Linkages
- Support generation and/or dissemination of plausible evidence to inform policies and programs for regional impact
- Facilitate bridging of research-program gap by demonstrating novel and innovative approaches
Knowledge Management
- Monthly collation and dissemination of relevant news, events, views and research findings for member states use
- Quarterly update on key member states nutrition and related actions for interstate learning and sharing
- Draft and disseminate policies, technical and advocacy briefs and global and regional programmatic guidance for member states access and use
Regional Coordination
- Convene and facilitate active plat-form for accountability of cross-border nutrition actions
- Facilitate information sharing and peer review of approaches among the member states for improvements in nutrition impact
